Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per fess dancett enhanced Or and Gules, in base a 75-mm howitzer of the first.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed ME SEMPER ARCESSUNT in Black letters.

Symbolism
The shield is red and yellow, the colors associated with Field Artillery.  The per fess division with the howitzer alludes to the fact that the 97th Field Artillery Battalion is mounted artillery.  The motto translates to They Always Send Me.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 13 May 1941.
